A five-star Carmel Valley resort with its own 18-hole course and the sunshine that the coast often loses to fog.
The Quail Lodge sits in Carmel Valley, 12 miles and 20 minutes from Pebble Beach Golf Links via Carmel Valley Road. The distance from the coast brings two practical advantages: lower nightly rates than the Pebble Beach Resorts properties, and sunshine on mornings when the coastal fog has settled in for the day. The setting is valley-floor pastoral, oaks and open meadows rather than dramatic coastline. On site you get an 18-hole golf course at Quail Lodge and Golf Club, a heated pool, tennis and pickleball courts, bocce ball, a wellness centre, and two restaurants.
Five-star service in a quieter register than The Lodge at Pebble Beach. Expect a relaxed atmosphere, free parking and WiFi, and a microclimate warmer and clearer than the coast on many days. The on-site course makes a good warm-up or recovery round without the drive. The trade-off is the 20-minute commute to the coastal courses and the absence of advance tee time booking privileges at Pebble Beach Resorts; you use the standard public booking windows. For groups travelling with non-golfers, Carmel Valley wineries and hiking sit within a short drive.
$285 to $950 per night. A three-night stay at the low end saves roughly $2,400 over an equivalent stay at The Lodge, enough to fund two additional rounds at Spyglass Hill or Poppy Hills. Book direct through the resort or via the link on this page.
