The property

The Perry occupies a waterfront position in downtown Petoskey, the rare northern Michigan golf base that gives you a town rather than a resort campus. The 75 rooms place you within walking distance of the Gaslight District's restaurants, shops, and galleries, with Little Traverse Bay at your back. The H. O. Rose dining room and Noggin Room pub handle meals at a level above standard resort kitchens, and the rooftop opens out across the bay. Boyne Highlands is 20 miles east, Bay Harbor Golf Club roughly the same distance south.

What to expect

Character and location, in that order. Expect a historic property where the rooms are comfortable but the bones are old, and where the appeal is the walkable downtown around it. Evenings happen on Howard Street, not at a resort bar. The Tunnel of Trees scenic drive starts in nearby Harbor Springs if you want a non-golf afternoon.
