Moderate
This itinerary approaches the Golden Isles from the opposite end of the budget spectrum. Instead of the Sea Island resort, the base is St. Simons Island, where public-access courses, mid-range hotels, and the surrounding attractions of Jekyll Island and Savannah produce a trip that costs a fraction of the resort experience.
Sea Island & St. Simons, Georgia
Trip at a Glance
Fly into Jacksonville (JAX) or Savannah (SAV) and drive to St. Simons Island.
Morning round at Sea Palms Resort Golf Course, the George Cobb design managed by Troon. At $100 to $160, the green fee is the best value on the island, and the Troon conditioning ensures a well-maintained playing surface.
Morning round at The King and Prince Golf Club, the Joe Lee design associated with the beach resort. Resort guests receive the lower $95 green fee.
Check out and drive to JAX or SAV. If you skipped Savannah on Day 3 and are flying out of SAV, a stop in the historic district on the way to the airport adds two to three hours to the travel day but captures the city without requiring a separate trip.
Trip Logistics
Plan the Practicalities
A rental car is essential throughout. The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort is the most convenient base for golfers playing the on-site course, while the Hampton Inn offers a lower nightly rate with a short drive to both courses. Book Sea Palms tee times through the pro shop or a tee time platform, and King and Prince through the resort directly. This itinerary works best in shoulder and off-peak seasons, when green fees and accommodation rates sit at their lowest.
