A Kohler trip does not need four nights and four courses to be worthwhile. The two strongest layouts in the portfolio, the Straits Course at Whistling Straits and the River Course at Blackwolf Run, can be played across a long weekend with two nights at the Inn on Woodlake. This is the essential Kohler experience: one lakeside links course and one riverside forest course, both designed by Pete Dye, both walking-friendly, and both capable of carrying the trip on their own.

Plan the Practicalities
A rental car is recommended. The resort shuttle covers the Kohler-to-Whistling Straits route, but a car gives you flexibility for breweries on the Sheboygan Brewery Trail, dining options in Sheboygan, and the drive to and from Milwaukee. Rental rates from MKE run $30 to $75 per day. The Inn on Woodlake's golf packages, booked through Destination Kohler, bundle lodging and rounds at rates that typically beat individual pricing. June through September is the prime window. May shoulder season offers lower green fees, roughly $100 less at the Straits Course, in exchange for morning temperatures in the mid-40s that demand layers for the first few holes. Weekend tee times at the Straits Course fill quickly during peak season; book as far in advance as possible.
