Drive into Bandon from the north on Highway 101 or from the east via Highway 42. Portland sits roughly four hours and 20 minutes away, Eugene two hours and 36 minutes, and the northern Oregon coast near Florence or Newport two to three hours up 101.

Check out and continue south on Highway 101 toward Gold Beach and the California border, or reverse north toward Florence, Newport, and Portland. Heading south with time to spare, stop at Cape Blanco Lighthouse 40 minutes down the coast, Oregon's oldest continuously operating lighthouse and the westernmost point in the contiguous United States.

Two nights is tight by Bandon standards, but it works for the golfer who accepts the limits and focuses on the best the resort offers. Pacific Dunes and Sheep Ranch back to back give you a clear read on the place: Doak's architectural precision, Coore and Crenshaw's naturalism, both expressed on coastal terrain that has no American equivalent.
A rental car is essential for the duration. Day-guest tee times for golfers not staying on resort are available April through mid-November after 10:00 AM, bookable up to 21 days ahead, with a $50 to $75 premium per round over guest rates. For groups not committing to on-resort lodging, day-guest rates keep the trip viable from the Best Western or Bandon Inn.
These two rounds answer one question: is the full five-night trip worth the investment? For golfers who care about design, walking, and don't mind the wind, the answer is almost always yes.
