The Short Course That Completes the Cabot Day
Brooksville, Florida · 12 holes · Par 48 · Resort
The Squeeze is the third course at Cabot Citrus Farms and the newest addition to the property, opening in 2024 as a complement to the full-length Karoo and the par-3 Roost. Designed by Mike Nuzzo, it follows the short-course format that has become an increasingly common feature at destination golf resorts: a compact layout built for social play, walkable in under two hours, and designed with enough thought to reward golfers who take it seriously without demanding that they do.
At roughly 2,200 yards across 12 holes, The Squeeze occupies a similar space in the Cabot Citrus Farms experience as The Chain does at Streamsong. It is the end-of-day round, the arrival-afternoon option, the course where the group plays together regardless of skill level and the conversation matters as much as the scorecard. Walking is the only way to play it, and the sandy Florida terrain moves comfortably underfoot.
Nuzzo designed the course to take advantage of the same former citrus farmland that defines the broader Cabot Citrus Farms property. The sandy soil and gentle topography provide a natural canvas for a short-course layout, and the playing surfaces share the firm, fast character that defines Karoo. The holes mix par 3s with short par 4s, creating variety in club selection and shot shape without requiring the full toolkit that an 18-hole championship course demands.
The Squeeze is typically included with a stay at Cabot Citrus Farms, making it a no-cost addition to an itinerary that already includes Karoo and The Roost. For guests spending multiple days on the property, the three courses together provide a complete range of golf experiences: a full-length test on Karoo, a par-3 architecture showcase on The Roost, and a casual social round on The Squeeze. The combination is well considered and avoids the sense of repetition that can settle in during a multi-day stay at a single-course resort.
The 12-hole format is gaining traction across destination golf properties, and for good reason. It provides enough golf to feel like a complete experience while fitting into windows of time that a full 18-hole round cannot. At Cabot Citrus Farms, where the primary draw is the Karoo course and the afternoon is often claimed by The Roost, The Squeeze provides an additional option that requires no planning and no significant time commitment. It is the round that fills the gap between breakfast and a Karoo tee time, or the one that extends the golf day after The Roost without pushing into the late evening.
As a newer course on a still-developing property, The Squeeze will continue to mature over the coming seasons. The bones of the design are sound, the setting is consistent with the quality Cabot has established across its portfolio, and the intent is clear. It fills a specific role in the Cabot Citrus Farms experience, and it fills it well.
