The red-and-white striped Harbour Town Lighthouse is the most recognisable structure on Hilton Head, and at $7.50 to climb it, the price barely factors into the decision. Built in 1969 alongside Harbour Town Golf Links, it's served as the visual shorthand for Sea Pines and Lowcountry golf for more than five decades.
The 114-step climb opens onto an observation deck with views across Calibogue Sound, the marina, and the Sea Pines landscape. The museum at the base houses RBC Heritage memorabilia, Civil War artifacts, and exhibits on island history. If you've watched the Heritage on television, you'll recognise the tower instantly; for non-golfing companions, the museum and the deck views give it substance beyond the photo. Allow one to two hours including the climb, museum, and time on the deck. The stairs are manageable for most, but worth thinking about if anyone in the group has mobility limitations.
Harbour Town Marina inside Sea Pines Resort, open daily 10 a.m. to sundown. $7.50 per person, children five and under free. The $9 Sea Pines gate fee for non-residents applies on top, so it's worth pairing the visit with lunch or dinner at one of the marina restaurants to make the gate fee earn its keep. Easy combine with a Harbour Town tee time or a sunset cruise from the same marina.
