Talamore Golf Resort runs on a villa model rather than a hotel one, which is the whole point if you're travelling as a foursome on a Sandhills budget.

The property

The villas sit at 48 Talamore Dr in Southern Pines, roughly eight miles from the Pinehurst Resort campus. You get two- and three-bedroom units with full kitchens, a pool, BBQ area, cabanas, and WiFi. There is no concierge, no spa, no full-service restaurant on site. The on-site Rees Jones course and bundled access to Legacy Golf Links mean the golf is built into the stay.

What to expect

Functional and clean rather than luxurious. You will cook your own breakfast, drive into Pinehurst Village or Southern Pines for dinner, and use the saved budget for tee times at Pinehurst No. 2, Tobacco Road, or Mid Pines. For groups whose priority is maximising rounds per dollar, the trade-offs are easy to accept.

Estimated $75 to $135 per villa per night. A foursome splitting a two-bedroom unit pays roughly $20 to $35 per person per night, which makes a four- or five-night Sandhills trip feasible on a budget no resort property can match.
