Two nights in Las Vegas is enough for two strong rounds of golf and a genuine experience of the city, provided the itinerary is precise about where to spend the time. This trip pairs Cascata, the Rees Jones canyon course in Boulder City with a 418-foot waterfall through the clubhouse, with the Wolf Course at Paiute, Pete Dye's 7,604-yard desert links layout that is the longest and most demanding course in the Las Vegas corridor. The two courses represent entirely different expressions of desert golf architecture, and the contrast between them justifies the two-round format over playing two similar layouts.
Fly into Harry Reid International Airport and pick up a rental car. The airport sits two miles from the Strip, and Boulder City is a 30-minute drive southeast.
Morning tee time on the Wolf Course at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, a 35-to-40-minute drive northwest of the Strip. At 7,604 yards, the Wolf is the longest course in Las Vegas and Pete Dye's most challenging design at the Paiute complex.
Check out and return to Harry Reid International, a 10-to-15-minute drive. The airport's proximity to the Strip makes morning departures straightforward.
A rental car is necessary for both course days. Cascata is 30 minutes southeast in Boulder City, and Paiute is 35 to 40 minutes northwest on tribal land. The drives are in opposite directions from the Strip, which is why the itinerary places them on separate days rather than attempting a 36-hole day that would involve 90 minutes of combined driving between courses. Strip hotel self-parking runs $18 to $25 per day, with valet at $35 to $45. For visitors arriving on a Friday, booking the Wolf Course for Saturday adds $40 to the green fee over the weekday rate. The optimal scheduling for this itinerary places Cascata on a weekday arrival day and Wolf on the following morning, departing on the third day. Peak season is March through April and October, when temperatures sit in the 70s and 80s and both courses are in their best condition.
