The DFW metro contains enough quality public and daily-fee golf to build a compelling trip without approaching the resort pricing at PGA Frisco. This itinerary plays four courses across a geographic arc from Grapevine to The Colony to Grand Prairie, each offering distinct design character and strong conditioning at green fees that range from $55 to $300. The all-inclusive pricing at Cowboys Golf Club absorbs what would otherwise be separate cart, range, and food costs, which makes its headline number more reasonable than it first appears.
Fly into DFW and drive 20 minutes east to Grapevine for the opening round at Cowboys Golf Club. Jeff Brauer designed the course in 2001 near Lake Grapevine dam, and the NFL branding is pervasive but secondary to the golf itself.
This is the centrepiece day, with 36 holes at two sister courses on Lake Lewisville in The Colony, roughly 15 minutes from Frisco. Both courses were designed by Tripp Davis, Old American in collaboration with Justin Leonard, and they share a clubhouse and booking platform while offering fundamentally different experiences.
Morning round at Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie, approximately 30 minutes south of Frisco. Jeff Brauer designed this municipal course in 1995 with bentgrass greens and Bermuda fairways, a combination that provides excellent playing surfaces at a public course price point.
Depart from DFW, which is approximately 30 minutes from Frisco. An early flight allows time for breakfast at the hotel or a morning visit to Legacy West.
A rental car is essential. The four courses span a 35-mile radius, and the Dallas North Tollway, Sam Rayburn Tollway, and I-35 connect them efficiently outside rush hours. Rental car costs in DFW average $40 to $65 per day for a mid-size vehicle. The Embassy Suites includes complimentary made-to-order breakfast and an evening reception, which further reduces the daily spend. The best months for this trip match the PGA Frisco prime season: March through May and September through November. Summer visitors should book early morning tee times and plan indoor activities for the afternoon heat.
