Avondale is the budget anchor of the Coeur d'Alene golf market, sitting eight miles and fifteen minutes north of downtown in Hayden Lake. Melvin Hueston built the original layout in 1968, and Mark Rathert modernised the routing in 1996 while preserving the mature tree-lined corridors that give the course its character. It's a member-owned club that welcomes public play, and weekday rates start around $55.
You're playing 6,571 yards, par 72, slope 136. Shorter than the other courses in the area, but the slope reflects tight fairways and tree-lined corridors that demand accuracy off the tee. Mountain views appear throughout the round, framed by ponderosa pines and birch. The design is traditional in the best sense: defined fairways, visible hazards, greens that reward well-struck approach shots, and a routing that builds naturally toward stronger holes on the back nine.
At weekday rates of $55 to $75, easily. Weekend peaks near $140 are less compelling against the regional alternatives, so build your trip around weekday and twilight tee times. Conditioning is respectable rather than premium; you're not paying for the polish of Circling Raven or the Coeur d'Alene Resort course, and the price reflects that.
Book through the link on this page. Pace of play is generally good and the clubhouse atmosphere is unpretentious. For a two or three-day Coeur d'Alene trip, this is your value round alongside the marquee Resort Course and Circling Raven. The fifteen-minute drive from downtown means you can fit it into a day that includes other activities. If The Idaho Club or Gozzer Ranch are on the itinerary, Avondale balances the spend.
