Tubbs Hill is a 120-acre forested peninsula extending into Lake Coeur d'Alene, with its trailhead a short walk from both the resort and downtown, and it is the easiest way to fill a morning gap without spending money or driving anywhere.
Multiple trail loops of varying difficulty wind through the forested interior and along the shoreline. The perimeter trail takes about an hour at a moderate pace and delivers the kind of lake and mountain views that compete with what you saw from the golf course. Unofficial swimming beaches along the southern shore provide lake access in summer, and the trail surface is well maintained without feeling overly groomed. A one-hour loop followed by a swim is a complete activity that requires no booking, no cost, and no car. For non-golfing companions, this is the outdoor counterpart to the spa and downtown shopping.
Trails open year-round during daylight hours. Trailhead reachable on foot from the resort and downtown. Sturdy footwear recommended; some elevation change and uneven surfaces. Swimming beaches are unsupervised. Dogs are not permitted on the trails.
