Fishing (Trout Streams & Lakes)

Central Wisconsin's cold-water streams and lakes hold healthy trout populations, and a guided half day on the water is a natural rest-day complement to a Sand Valley golf trip.

The experience

Local outfitters know the water and handle the equipment, so you turn up, learn the basics if you need them, and fish. The pace matches Sand Valley itself: deliberate, quiet, attentive. For golfers used to the focus of a round, reading water and presenting a fly feels familiar rather than foreign. Spring and fall produce the best conditions, though the season runs April through October in step with the resort calendar. Morning sessions leave the afternoon open for a round on The Sandbox or Sedge Valley.

Logistics

Guided trips run $50 to $100 per person for a half day, with instruction included for beginners. A Wisconsin fishing license is required and can be bought online through the Wisconsin DNR. Book ahead, especially during peak summer weeks. Outfitters provide rods, tackle, and guidance; wading gear is recommended for stream fishing.
