Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens combines an AZA-accredited animal collection with the botanical heritage of a tropical garden that predates the zoo itself.
The Caribbean Gardens were established in 1919, and the original plantings still provide canopy and landscape that most modern zoos lack. The animal collection is modest compared to major metropolitan zoos, but the presentation is thoughtful and the signature experiences are distinctive.
The boat ride through the primate islands is the most unusual offering. A guided vessel circles islands in the central lake where primates live in open habitats without barriers, visible from water level, a format you'll find at very few facilities anywhere. The giraffe feeding lets you hand-feed from an elevated platform and gets busy enough in season to warrant arriving early.
The garden setting is the differentiator. Walking paths wind through mature tropical plantings, and the overall feel is more garden than concrete. For groups travelling with children, it fills a morning comfortably without consuming a full day.
Last entry 3:30pm, an hour before closing. Adults $26.95, children 3-12 $17.95. Grounds are flat and stroller-accessible. On-site cafe serves basic lunch fare. Giraffe feeding is an additional fee, first-come basis during busy periods. Free parking.
