The Stables at Frederica, Sea Island's equestrian programme, runs guided 90-minute beach rides along the resort's south beach. Three sessions a day at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m., riders 10 and up, no prior experience needed. Resort guests only.
The rides follow the coastline, with flat, firm sand at low tide as the riding surface and the Atlantic as the backdrop. Guides match riders to appropriate horses and cover instruction before the group moves to the beach. Pace is walking, with the occasional trot for more confident riders. The visual experience of riding along the water's edge, with the barrier island stretching ahead and the marsh visible to the west, is what distinguishes this from inland programmes. Beach riding is available in plenty of coastal destinations; Sea Island's version benefits from the same quiet exclusivity that defines the resort, and the setting isn't replicated elsewhere in the Golden Isles.
$160 per person plus a 25% service charge, which makes this one of the more expensive activities at Sea Island. Ages 10 and up. No prior riding experience necessary. Reservations required, particularly in peak season. Daily operation, weather permitting. Resort guest access only, so this is a reason in itself if you're staying off-property and considering a day pass arrangement, or simply something to plan around your stay at The Lodge or The Cloister.
