Bandon Beach Riding Stables has run guided rides on this stretch of Pacific coastline since 1979, and the sunset version is the one to book. The light along the Beach Loop in the evening is the same light that makes the drive compelling, but experiencing it from horseback at the waterline adds a dimension a car cannot.
Rides follow the beach past sea stacks and tide pools, covering terrain that suits the slow pace a horse provides. The operation works for beginners aged six and older; no prior experience is required, and guides match horses to rider experience. One-hour rides go for $60; the 90-minute sunset ride is $80. This is the most popular non-golf activity near Bandon Dunes and the one most likely to leave a lasting impression on a non-golfing partner. Easy to combine with an afternoon round at Bandon Trails or Pacific Dunes if the timing works.
Departures at 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, 4 PM, and 6 PM, with the 6 PM sunset ride operating only after daylight saving begins. Cash only; no card processing on site. Stables at 54629 Beach Loop Road. Book ahead through the operator, particularly for sunset rides in summer. Closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate layers; the Oregon coast can run cool even in summer evenings.
