The fishing at Big Cedar Lodge runs on two distinct bodies of water that produce entirely different days. Table Rock Lake, at 43,000 acres, holds largemouth and smallmouth bass that draw serious anglers from across the region. Lake Taneycomo, the cold tailwater below Table Rock Dam, supports year-round rainbow trout in conditions closer to a mountain stream than a Missouri lake.
The combination of warm-water bass and cold-water trout within minutes of each other is unusual: most destinations offer one or the other. Bass fishing peaks April through October, with early morning and late afternoon producing the most consistent results. Taneycomo trout fish year-round, which makes it a viable activity even when the courses are closed. Proximity is the practical win here: you can play 18 in the morning at Big Cedar and fish for trout on Taneycomo in the afternoon without a significant drive.
Guided half-day trips $60 to $150 through the resort and local outfitters. Self-guided fishing requires a Missouri fishing license: $14 per day for non-residents 16 and older, available online from the Missouri Department of Conservation. Resort offers equipment rental and can arrange guides. Book guided trips at least several days ahead in peak season.
