Fernandina Beach is a working coastal town with a Victorian-era downtown, a shrimp fleet still tied up in the harbor, and 13 miles of uncrowded Atlantic beach on Amelia Island. The compact district along Centre Street holds independent restaurants and shops in late 19th-century buildings, with seafood that benefits directly from the boats outside. Weekend evenings bring more activity and live music at several venues.
Fort Clinch State Park sits at the northern tip of the island. The preserved Civil War-era fort is walkable, and the beach beyond it is among the least developed on Florida's Atlantic coast.
The combination fills a half day comfortably, longer if you linger over lunch. From the Omni Amelia Island Resort it is a 15-minute drive. From Sawgrass and Ponte Vedra it is 45 minutes, so plan it as the day rather than an afternoon stop.
Fort Clinch State Park charges $6 per vehicle. Downtown parking is generally easy. The town is walkable end to end. Pair with an Amelia Island golf day if you are coming from Ponte Vedra.
